How can I pay my fare on the bus?

GoPass Umo Card: Stop by the information booth at GoRaleigh Station to get Umo GoPass Card.
Cash: Pay in EXACT change when getting on the bus.

  • Insert your cash and coins into the farebox. The location for the bill-slot and coin-drop is the lower right corner. The farebox will not accept bills over $20. Bills should be flat and unfolded. Drop coins one at a time.
  • If you do not have exact change, you will not receive cash back. If you are due more than $1 in change, you will need to ask the driver for you to be issued a Change Card that can be used on future bus rides. The value of the Change Card will be printed on the back.

How do I get on the bus and pay?

Use the front door when boarding the bus. Scan your Umo QR code or tap your GoPass Umo Card on the Umo reader as you board. You can also use the cash box to insert the exact change.

Can I have an GoPass Umo Card and use the Umo App to pay fare?

How do I qualify for a discounted fare?

Online

Fill out this form to see if you qualify for one of GoRaleigh's free or discounted fares. If you are eligible for any of the fares, a benefits code will appear on the screen, which you can use in the Umo App or the Passenger Portal if you are using a GoPass Umo Card.

In Person

How can I use a benefits code on UMO?

Benefits codes for discounted fares will be an eight-digit code that can be entered into the Umo app or Passenger Portal to apply your fare type to your account.

In the Umo app, you can click the three lines in the upper left corner and select ‘Redeem Benefit Code’. GoRaleigh-generated codes will look like the following GO - XXXX-XXXX

What is fare-capping?

Fare-capping sets a daily, weekly and monthly cap, so you never pay more than a certain amount during each time frame. Umo keeps track of your fare-capping on your app or GoPass Umo Card.

Why is GoRaleigh returning to fare?

Suspension of fares was a temporary measure to help protect our staff and riders during the COVID-19 pandemic by avoiding contact at the fare box. The CARES Act funding helped transit agencies continue to operate by providing funds to fill the financial gap. That funding is no longer available. Raleigh City Council voted to resume fare collection effective July 1, 2024.

Does fare-capping work on GoRaleigh and GoTriangle?

Fares paid on GoTriangle and GoRaleigh buses will count toward the fare capping levels of both agencies.
•    GoTriangle's Fare Caps: $5 Daily, $20 Weekly, $80 Monthly
•    GoRaleighs's Fare Caps: $2.50 Daily, $12 Weekly, $40 Monthly

Example Scenario:

In the morning James boards a GoTriangle bus and pays $2.50 fare from his Umo account. That afternoon he boards a GoRaleigh bus. GoRaleigh's fare cap is $2.50, so he has already reached the limit. His GoRaleigh ride, and all rides on GoRaleigh for the rest of the day will be free of charge.

Later that evening, he boards a GoTriangle bus to get back home. He has spent $2.50 on fares today, but GoTriangle's Regional fare cap is $5.00, so he will pay $2.50 for his second ride on GoTriangle. Now he has spent $5.00 on transit fares for the day, so he has reached the regional fare cap. Any rides on GoTriangle or GoRaleigh will be free for James for the rest of the day.

Can you pay for another rider using your Umo account?

No. Each rider must pay individually using the Umo app, GoPass Umo card or cash (exact change).

How quickly is my Umo fare payment posted to my account?

Fare payment is posted instantly to your Umo account. You can see your transaction history in your Umo Account under ‘View History’.
