Bikes on Buses and Mobility Devices

GoRaleigh encourages riders to use bikes and other authorized mobility devices to connect their first and last mile to the nearest bus stop.

GoRaleigh welcomes many personal mobility devices and other items onboard buses. For the safety and comfort of everyone, passengers bringing large items onboard must keep aisles clear, avoid restricting passenger movement or additional seating on crowded buses, and remain in control of their items at all times.

Allowed Onboard

The following items are allowed onboard GoRaleigh buses:

• Wheelchairs
• Walkers
• Personal accessibility devices
• Hoverboards
• One wheels
• Suitcases
• Utility carts
• Skateboards
• Roller skates
• Strollers that are 26 inches wide or less, with the child properly secured

Allowed with Restrictions

Personal electric scooters may be brought onboard only when folded.

Personal non-electric scooters may be brought onboard only when folded.

Personal foldable bicycles may be brought onboard when folded.

Personal standard bicycles may be placed on the exterior bike rack. Bringing one onboard is at the bus operator's discretion.

Personal e-bikes may use the exterior bike rack if they weigh less than 55 pounds and meet the rack's size requirements. Bringing an e-bike onboard is at the bus operator's discretion.

Not Allowed

The following are not permitted onboard GoRaleigh buses or on exterior bike racks:

• Shared fleet e-bikes, such as Lime or Spin
• Shared fleet e-scooters, such as Lime or Spin
• Personal fat tire bicycles
• Personal cargo bicycles
• Wagons, including stroller wagons

Electric Mobility Devices

All electric mobility devices must have undamaged, Underwriter Laboratory (UL)-certified batteries. Charging batteries onboard buses or on station platforms is prohibited.

Bike Rack Requirements

Exterior bike racks can accommodate wheel sizes from 20 to 29 inches, wheel widths up to 2.3 inches, and bicycles weighing up to 55 pounds. Bicycle types not specifically listed in the policy may be accepted at the bus operator's discretion.
